Celebrating the Spirit of Giving With The Birth of Small Miracles

Today, on Giving Tuesday 2024, we reflect on how Small Miracles began—thanks to the vision and compassion of Jordyn Small, our founder. On Giving Tuesday 2019, Jordyn and her family decided to use this special day of giving to raise funds and bring gifts to pediatric oncology patients at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Jordyn’s goal was simple yet profound: to ensure that children and teens battling cancer felt a little bit of love, joy, and comfort during their challenging time in the hospital.

From a Simple Idea to a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit

What started as a small gesture of kindness has grown into a larger mission with a lasting impact. Small Miracles is now a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that continues to enhance and improve the lives of pediatric oncology patients. Through Jordyn’s vision and the generous support of donors and volunteers, our mission has expanded to provide meaningful gifts, experiences, and support to young cancer patients throughout the year.

Our Ongoing Commitment

The Impact of Treatment Bags and Gifts

One of the most important ways we continue to support pediatric oncology patients is through our treatment bags. These bags are filled with thoughtful items designed to bring comfort and joy to children and teens during their hospital stays. Each treatment bag includes fuzzy socks, lip balm, playing cards, hand sanitizer, and a gift card—a simple but meaningful way to brighten their day.

In addition to the treatment bags, we also provide iPads and other gifts to patients, offering a much-needed distraction and connection during treatment. Jordyn’s original mission of ensuring that every child, regardless of age, feels cared for and valued continues to guide Small Miracles today.

Why We Need Your Support As Donations Make a Difference

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in our mission. We are seeking monetary donations to help fund the creation of these treatment bags and provide additional support to patients in need. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and goes directly toward helping us fulfill our mission. Your contributions allow us to continue providing comfort and hope to children and teens battling pediatric cancer.

The Impact of Your Generosity

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 15,780 children under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States. Pediatric cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death for children, and the need for support—both emotional and physical—is critical. Programs like Small Miracles play a vital role in ensuring that these children receive not only the medical care they need but also the emotional support to help them face their challenges with strength and hope.

In fact, a report from the National Cancer Institute highlights that nearly 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20. Our mission at Small Miracles is to make sure that no child faces this battle alone, and your support makes that possible.

How to Donate and Make a Difference

If you would like to contribute to Small Miracles this Giving Tuesday, we are accepting donations through Venmo at @MichaelSmall-Miracles2. Every donation is appreciated, and because Small Miracles is a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax-deductible.

Your generosity not only helps us provide treatment bags and other gifts but also ensures that children with cancer know they are supported, loved, and cared for during their treatment.

As we celebrate Giving Tuesday 2024, we are reminded of how far we’ve come and how much further we can go with your help. Jordyn’s dream of making a difference in the lives of pediatric oncology patients has turned into a thriving mission, and we are so grateful to all of you who continue to support us. Thank you for being a part of Small Miracles and for helping us bring hope to children in need.
